Where Community, Nature, and Sustainability Flourish
CERES is a leading not-for-profit organisation that brings together environmental education, urban agriculture, community engagement, and social enterprise across several sites on Wurundjeri Country in Naarm (Melbourne). Through its diverse programs and spaces, CERES encourages individuals, schools, and communities to adopt more sustainable ways of living while fostering a stronger connection with nature.
A key part of this work is Joe’s Market Garden in Coburg, a two-acre certified organic farm situated along Merri Creek. The site has a long agricultural history, having been cared for by the Wurundjeri people for tens of thousands of years before being cultivated by successive generations of Chinese and Italian market gardeners. Since 2003, CERES has continued this legacy by managing the farm as a productive space for regenerative agriculture, education, and community participation.

Plantfulness was proud to contribute to this initiative, recognising the strong alignment between the values of both organisations. While CERES creates opportunities for people to learn about sustainable food systems, biodiversity, and environmental responsibility, Plantfulness shares the same commitment to reconnecting people with nature through practical, purpose-driven experiences.
Supporting Joe’s Market Garden reflects Plantfulness’s belief that healthy communities and healthy ecosystems go hand in hand. By working alongside CERES, Plantfulness helped strengthen a project that not only produces organic food but also preserves cultural heritage, promotes regenerative land management, and inspires people to make more environmentally conscious choices. The partnership demonstrates how collaboration can create lasting social and environmental benefits while encouraging greater care for people, place, and the natural world.
