Another successful volunteer day for Plantfulness, out at the Abbotsford Farm!
As the warmth of the morning sun started to kick in on a lovely Friday morning, the Plantfulness & AMES volunteer team gathered at FareShare’s Abbotsford Farm to start a fun and productive morning of garden work.

The day kicked off first by unloading a donation of tools from Cyclone Tools and Kelso. The much needed tools included rakes, gloves, hoes, pitch forks and wheelbarrows. Enough to keep the Abbotsford Garden stocked up, ready for Spring and Summer to roll around.

The team then broke off into groups to tackle the various jobs around the garden. With constant smiles and laughter echoing across the gardens, the teams worked on digging to be done to clear space for new garden beds; planting new seedlings in time for spring growth; the turning of compost to maintain a healthy food source for the plants; and the harvesting of some lush green silverbeet.

The produce from the Abbotsford Farm gets sent to the FareShare kitchens who regularly cook over 30,000 nutritious meals a week for disadvantaged individuals. A noble cause that is important as ever, with rising cost of living and extreme weather affecting living standards across the country.

Overall, another fantastic day of volunteering at one of FareShare’s gardens with our thanks going out to the wonderful team for organising the day, special mentions to Isabel & Barbara who hosted us on the day. If you’re interested in getting involved with FareShare they take on public volunteers regularly. You can apply for Melbourne or Brisbane based locations.
